What does it take to power a rugby team? For the New Zealand All Blacks, the answer is as simple as quitting sugar.

‘Most of the guys now understand that we need to get the sugar out,’ explains the team’s strength and conditioning coach, Dr Nicholas Gill.

The team has recently moved to a low-sugar diet, swapping half-time lollies for nuts and healthy fats like peanut butter and coconut oil. ‘I’d say we are now in a low sugar environment,’ Gill says.

Each player has a diet tailored to their individual nutrition needs, to help them perform at their best for the entire international series. And cutting down on sugar intake has been a big part of the team’s nutrition plan.

It’s not just about feeding the body, either – the focus is on giving the team food that is not only good for them, but tastes delicious too.
