4 Homemade Hair Remedies From Your Kitchen

Posted by: [email protected] on March 2, 2016

Get out of the salon and into the kitchen! We’ve found four ingredients that you might not know can do double duty for both your hair care and your dinner.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Shampoos and conditioners can strip your hair’s natural oils. Apple cider vinegar removes residue in the hair, and leaves the natural oils intact. It can also act to clear up dandruff. And in great news for all of us who wake up looking more like a bird’s nest than a human being, it’s also a natural detangler.

Just mix one part apple cider vinegar with one part water, and apply to the hair after shampooing. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse. Applying after shampooing will help restore your hair to its natural pH levels.

The vinegar smell won’t hang around once you’ve rinsed it out, so don’t worry about smelling like someone’s lunch all day.

Avocado

If we weren’t already in love with avo, here’s another reason. Our bodies love the good fats in avocado, and our hair does too: they moisturise your hair, and can help reduce frizz. Brilliant! Check out some easy DIY avocado hair masks here.

Baking soda

For a deep clean, baking soda is the way to go. It gets rid of all the built-up residue in your hair. Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with half a cup of water, apply to your hair and leave for about 15 minutes. Rinse and wash as usual.

Only use this one no more than twice a month. Too often will have the opposite effect and could damage your locks.

Coconut oil

So our ‘Amazing Things Coconut Oil Can Do’ list just keeps getting longer. Coconut oil is great for a deep condition, because it can penetrate into deep into your hair. It’s even better than most commercial conditioners.

Just melt a small amount of coconut oil and, once cooled down, massage it into your hair and comb through. Wrap up your hair and leave it for at least half an hour – the longer the better! Then just shampoo as normal. Too easy!
