For most of us, going sugar free sounds like a big, scary step – especially if, like me, you have a sweet tooth! There’s so much information out there it can be hard to work out where to start, and of course nobody really wants to give up cake.

To make it easier, we’ve put together 5 mini resolutions you can make that will help you cut out sugar and feel better doing it!

1.Swap out sweet drinks
Swap soft drink for water, and don’t add sugar to your tea or coffee. This one might seem obvious, but it can also have a huge positive effect on your health. Even swapping one sweet drink a day for water improves your health, so don’t be afraid to start off gradually

2.Limit processed food
This is an easy way to avoid hidden sugars. Eat whole foods – yep, you have to eat your veggies – and avoid pre-packaged food. This way you know exactly what’s in the food you eat.

3.Use sugar free recipes
Ice cream, cheesecake, pancakes, actual cake, banana bread…you name it, there’s a sugar free version you can make. You definitely don’t have to give up your favourite foods. Check out www.sweeterlifeclub.com for heaps of delicious sugar free recipes!

4.Get others involved
No, this doesn’t mean you have to convert all of your family, friends and workplace to going sugar free (but don’t let us stop you if you want to!) Just having someone supporting you can make a huge difference. Ask a close friend to give up sugar when you do, or have one day a week where the whole family eats sugar-free.

5.Stick at it
Possibly the most important resolution of all! It might be tough, but remind yourself of why you’re doing what you’re doing – you’ve made a fantastic choice for your health and wellbeing, so keep going!
