ditch sugar

We’ve all heard the old cliché ‘you are what you eat’ it has been around for so long simply because its true. We feel better when we are eating healthy and are well hydrated. We have more energy, we feel more optimistic, and our skin glows.

When we load our bodies up with processed foods, and refined sugars that too affects us, our bodies don’t run as well, we don’t look or feel as good as we should. More than just a general feeling the health benefits of living a healthy, sugar free lifestyle have a tangible impact on our health.

Long-term benefits of quitting sugar:

1. Quitting sugar is better than botox. Removing refined sugar from your diet will drastically improve your skin. Sugar contributes to acne and wrinkles and can leave skin looking tired and dull. Research has found a connection between our blood glucose level and how old we look.

Startlingly, the study found that the higher the concentration of blood sugar, the older we look. Thankfully, quitting sugar will help to reverse this effect!

2. Avoiding refined sugar lowers our chances of developing conditions like Type 2 Diabetes. Sugar causes insulin resistance and when this happens our pancreas needs to produce much more insulin to keep our blood sugar levels down. When our pancreas is no longer able to keep up with the demand, our blood sugar levels significantly rise, resulting in a type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

3. Feel energised! Sugar gives us energy fast but then we crash and you guessed it, we need more sugar to feel better again. Having a more stable source of energy will avoid theses ups and downs and provide us with more energy at the end of the day to do the activities that you enjoy.

4. Your waistline will thank you! You guessed it, our figures really don’t benefit from added sugar! Sugary foods and particularly sugary drinks impact the way that our brains regulate hunger, meaning that we don’t know when we are full and continue to eat.

If you are a fan of sweets opt for an all natural stevia based sweetener like natvia, which has virtually no calories and contains nothing artificial. There are so many delicious sugar free recipes available online, which makes it so easy to skip the sugar, not dessert!

5. Improve your mood. Research has linked sugar with mood disorders. The carbohydrate foods we eat are broken down into glucose, which our brains run on. When we eat lots of sugar we get rapid highs and lows in our glucose levels. The more uneven our blood sugar supply, the more uneven our moods will be. Along with all of the other benefits, quitting sugar means that we will have more good days than bad days. That’s a big plus for going sugar free!
