7 easy tips for a guilt-free Easter

No, we’re not yolking – we’ve got some egg-cellent tips to help you stay healthy over the Easter break. The prospect of a long weekend filled with chocolates, hot cross buns and relaxing sounds perfect, but for those of us trying to stay healthy Easter can be a challenge! Check out our tips for enjoying a healthy Easter without sitting out during the Easter egg hunt.

  1. If you’re planning to enjoy chocolate over Easter, go for dark chocolate over milk. It’s higher in antioxidants and contains less kilojoules than milk chocolate. (Plus, I reckon it’s heaps tastier!)
  2. Or try using cacao rather than chocolate – it’s chocolate in its raw form. Add it to a smoothie or try these recipes for healthier, homemade dark and white chocolates.
  3. Don’t get cross: switch to wholemeal hot cross buns. They’ll fill you up more than their regular cousins, and they’ve got more fibre as well.
  4. Better still, try making your own sugar-free hot cross buns for an even healthier version! This fig and dark chocolate hot cross scone recipe is a yummy twist on the Easter classic, without the added sugar found in store-bought versions.
  5. Keep the kitchen stocked with your favourite healthy snacks to stop you reaching for those crème eggs halfway through the day. And if you just can’t resist the call of chocolate, make up a fruit plate to dip into melted dark chocolate, rather than scoffing a handful of chocolate.
  6. Stay active! It’s likely you’ll be eating more than usual over the long weekend. But the good news is that for many of us, we’ve got a few days off to burn the extra calories. Use the time to try something new, or go for a longer workout than usual.
  7. Finally, don’t stress! We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – it’s okay to indulge every now and then! Just make sure you’re enjoying all the sweet things Easter brings in moderation.
