Just 8 weeks can reverse type 2 diabetes

It was once thought that type 2 diabetes was incurable. But experts in the UK have found that just two months of dieting can reverse the disease.

Even people who have suffered for over a decade with the disease reversed their condition.

The trial found that type 2 diabetics who restricted their diet to only 700 calories a day lost an average of 14kg in just two months. After this time, they gradually increased their diet back to healthy levels.

After the first 8 weeks of the restricted-calorie diet, 12 out of 30 participants had actually reversed their diabetes.

Six months later, none of the participants had put the weight back on. Even better: for those who had reversed their diabetes, the disease had not returned.

Diabetes is caused when the body can’t produce the right levels of insulin to regulate blood sugar. Researchers explain that by losing weight, participants lost fat from around their pancreas, which then allows their body to produce insulin normally.

Essentially, by losing weight and keeping it off, type 2 diabetics have a hope of being disease-free.

The team behind the study are now conducting a larger trial, to see whether dieting works for all type 2 diabetics or if certain people have better results.

This is big news – type 2 diabetes is currently estimated to affect over 800,000 Australians. It’s one of Australia’s biggest health epidemics, and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down. This cheap and simple solution could be just what the doctor ordered.

        Hi Win,
You’re right, Professor Mosely recommends 800 calories per day – the study we were discussing used 700 calories for this particular trial.
