Dutch Peppernut Cookies

This recipe is part of our Natvia Around The World Collection. This traditional Dutch cookie is usually enjoyed during Christmas. Although the origins of the Dutch Peppernut cookie can’t be traced exactly, some have linked the cookie to the feast of Sinterklaas – a festive holiday where children receive gifts from St. Nicholas. The delicious treat has been a part of European holiday celebrations since the 1850’s. That doesn’t mean you can only these treats in December, enjoy our Dutch Peppernut cookies turned sugar-free all year round. Go on, take a bite!

Cook: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 125g self raising flour
  • 2 tbs Natvia
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • 50g unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 30 ml milk

Method

  1. Preheat to 180C
  2. Combine the dry ingredients in the bowl of a food processor and blitz to combine. Add the butter and pulse until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs
  3. Add the milk and pulse until the dough comes together
  4. Roll into balls and place on a lined baking tray
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
