Ingredients
For the donuts:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 apple, grated
For the apple filling:
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
Prepare the donuts: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, oil, egg, and vanilla. Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients just until combined. Gently fold in grated apple.
Prepare the donut pan: Grease a donut pan. Fill each donut mold about 2/3 full with batter.
Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Make the apple filling: In a small saucepan, combine apple butter, brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Let cool completely.
Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Assemble: Cut donuts in half horizontally. Fill with apple filling. Drizzle with glaze.
